|60th JOTA-JOTI International Jamboree on the Air and on the Internet
This is the largest Scouting event in the world with over 1 million Scouts participating across 150+ countries. JOTA is held on the 3rd weekend of every October. This year’s event will be held October 20th, 21st & 22nd.
The GAC with the assistance of Amateur (Ham) Radio Operators will be setting up JOTA Amateur Radio Stations at four locations in North and Central Alabama. Stations are planned for GAC Scout offices in Birmingham and Huntsville, Camp Comer, and Camp Sequoyah.
Activities at Camp Comer and Camp Sequoyah will coincide with Cub Haunted Weekend. Cub and Boy Scouts will be able to participate in JOTA with other Scouts the world over. Additional information is on our Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/alabamaradioscouting .
In preparation for JOTA this year, the GAC and the Amateur Radio Advancement Group (http://www.aragroup.org) will be conducting an Amateur Radio License Cram and Exam Session at the Trussville Civic Center on Saturday, August 12th 8 AM to 4 PM. Amateur Radio Exams will begin at 1 PM. The study session and the Amateur Radio Exam fee is waived for those 18 and under. The exam fee for those over 18 is $15. The session is open to Scouts, Leaders and the parents of Scouts. Space is limited, and reservations are required to attend the session. Please note that Scouts should not expect to be able to pass the Amateur Technician Class exam without studying prior to the session. Please note that this is not the traditional Radio Merit Badge class, but preparation and examination for the Technician Amateur (Ham) Radio License.
