Important News from NESA

Over the last year, a lot of change has taken place at the Boy Scouts of America. The National Eagle Scout Association, too, is undergoing some change.

Last year, in partnership with Scouting Alumni & Friends we began construction of the new Scouting Alumni Network (now known as: Scouting Alumni Directory 2.0) and updating our website. These projects were necessary to replace the back-end system – Blackbaud Sphere – as Blackbaud made a business decision to end their support of our site beginning March 31, 2019. Their decision was a catalyst for NESA to create an even better user experience while keeping the same administrative functions we have employed over the past three years.

Though we’ve been working diligently to prepare ourselves for this transition, some features and functionalities are not quite ready. We’ve completed phases 1 and 2 (of 7) and are currently working on phases 3 and 4. You can learn more about the process and progress of this undertaking on our newly launched website.

As our systems are not all completely on line, here are some temporary ways this affects you beginning March 31, 2019:

  • There may be some periods of time during the day when memberships may only be purchased through mail as we test our online registration process. We anticipate completing our testing in a couple of weeks and our online registration system to be ready no later than April 15, if not sooner.
  • The Scouting Alumni Directory 2.0 will be unavailable for a period of time as we configure administrator access and migrate alumni data. As we have worked on this project, there have been some unanticipated issues with integration. Therefore, our launch date is TBD. We will post updates on our website as more information becomes available.
  • ScoutingWires (Eagle and Alumni editions) will be on hold as we devote our resources to standing up the Scouting Alumni Directory 2.0.

Once we are back online, we expect that you will be impressed with the new and improved experience! You will find that you have better access, a better user experience, and better way to interact and network with other Scouting alumni. In addition, we will be continually adding features throughout the year.

Next weekend – March 30, 2019 – will be the last ScoutingWire (Eagle and Alumni editions) that you will receive until we turn on the new system. While we are down, here is one way you can prepare for the new system:

  • We cannot transfer your old username/password to the new system. You will now need to register a username/password with My.Scouting. If you already have an account with My.Scouting, no action is needed. You just need to use your My.Scouting password to access the Directory. The purpose behind this is to limit the number of usernames/passwords you must remember to access Boy Scouts of America systems.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and affiliation with the National Eagle Scout Association. This is a big project and requires the migration of about 3 million records. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know by email
