Are you missing out on High Adventure this summer, or just yearning for something new & out of the ordinary? The Pack N’ Paddle Experience at the Summit Bechtel Reserve (SBR), BSA’s 4th & newest National High Adventure Base, may be just the thing for you! This week-long trek promises 4 days & 40 miles of backpacking in the beautiful wilderness of West Virginia, immersion in the local mining history & a day of world-class whitewater rafting in the New River Gorge National Park, our nation’s 63rd & newest national park. The cherry on top at the end is a ride on the Big Zip, SBR‘s 3,000 foot long 50 mph zip line. This is a co-ed opportunity for Scouts (14 & over) & Venturers capable of hiking 5-15 miles/day in mountainous terrain with a 30-40 pound pack. Prior backpacking experience is strongly recommended & participants should be strong swimmers. The dates for the trek are July 15-22, 2021. SBR is offering an attractive introductory price for 2021 of $780/person (the cost will increase to $935 in 2022). As the Summit is a drivable 520 miles from Birmingham, travel costs will be minimal, with an anticipated total cost of under $1,000. The Pack N’ Paddle Experience is eligible for the Triple Crown & Grand Slam of High Adventure Award. Interested individuals should contact Steve Parris at StevenRParris@gmail.com. |
