Leave No Trace Course 2025

We have an exciting course coming up on the methods of “Leave No Trace” within scouting and how it can be used in the world beyond for the betterment of publicly accessible land!

The international Leave No Trace message is a key component of Scouting outdoor ethics.  The  7 Principles of Leave No Trace are based on the modern academic and scientific study of “recreation ecology.”  Leave No Trace is integrated into our outdoor Scouting literature and has become part of our Scouting advancement, awards and ideals/values programs.

The staff guides for our key outdoor Scouting training events (BALOO, IOLS, NAYLE, Wood Badge) provide very brief introductions to the ways that Leave No Trace applies to Scouting.  Our fall Leave No Trace Skills course is designed to provide Scouters who conduct these important outdoor Scouting courses with a deeper understanding of the how and why of the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace.

This expansion includes an introduction to the underlying science behind the Leave No Trace principles, supporting information for outdoor ethics advancement requirements, and how our Scouting outdoor ethics program is organized to support all levels of outdoor Scouting in our council.   A variety of practical minimum-impact outdoor Scouting skills will be tried and where to go to get more Leave No Trace information will be provided.

Older youth who hold Scouting leadership roles are welcome to attend, but this course is designed as an adult-level training event for unit/district/council Scouters who plan and/or conduct our outdoor Scouting programs at all levels within our council
